"I love me some Etta James!"

It is a sad day indeed.  I just learned that Etta James has released her final album.  It doesn't really come as a surprise.  She's not been in good health for years and the last year has taken a toll on her I understand from various press releases.  I regret that I never sent her a copy of my novel in which she "appears" as an important figure for the development of the character Rachel.  Heck, discovering her music was huge for ME!  Maybe I will send a copy now anyway--and bookmark the page where the character Rachel exclaims: "I love me some Etta James!"  Me too.  Always will.  Sending you well wishes and peace and love, Ms. James. Thank you for your musical legacy.  NOTE TO READERS: Oh, and go buy the album.  It's called "The Dreamer."

Cloudscome at Sandy Cove has got me obsessing about ethnic Legos again.  She's posted a great photo of a brown Lego minifig who is NOT a basketball player.  With a little digging Ifound a couple more today which I hope I'll be able to add to my collection soon.

Flip Camera and 12seconds.tv: New Internet Obsession

I just got a HD Flip Camera--the tiny little video camera that's about the size of a credit card and plugs in to the computer with a built-in USB connection.  It's so easy to use and easy to upload the video.  Then I got hipped to 12seconds.tv; it's like twitter on video.  So I made a film today.  I think I'll make one of me dancing around the Christmas tree next.

Small Pleasure & Obsession: Disposable Fountain Pen

I love writing with my fountain pens--alas, on the plane, it's not possible to use them because the air pressure makes them leak.  BUT I found this delicious alternative a couple years ago: the Pilot Varsity Disposable Fountain Pen.  It's so smooth on the page--Moleskine and otherwise.  And the medium nib is still pretty fine.  I buy the pens with blue, purple, black and sometimes turquoise (I think you can also get pink ink).  At abut $3.50 a piece, they are kind of pricey, but they last a good long while --and you can also order them in discounted variety packs.
