Today I found a room of my own at a writer's space in Tribeca. It's a short train ride from home and has all that I need to write: a simple desk and chair, internet, restroom and above all quiet. The room has exposed brick walls and good light. I signed up immediately. I have been looking for a space for some time--I am usually happy to write at home--but lately, home is full of distractions. There's laundry, dirty dishes, dusty shelves and the floors always need sweeping and washing. Add to that I have a parade of house guests in the coming weeks --in a one-bedroom apartment that means they are sleeping in the living room which equals my office.
Knowing that I will have my own quiet space even during that time, makes me happy. It's a really important time as I work on the final revisions of my novel which will be published next year. Today, I wrote until close to noon. I was the only person there. It was great!
